HONORARY CITIZENS

The town of Vatra expresses its gratitude to the people who, through their work, commitment and achievements, have made an outstanding contribution to the development of the community and to promoting the town’s image.

The title of “Honorary Citizen of the Town of Vatra” is one of the highest forms of recognition awarded at local level to people who have distinguished themselves through outstanding merit and significant contributions to the benefit of the community.
The award of distinctions at town level is governed by Vatra Town Council Decision No. 6.8 of 11 December 2017 and by the Regulation on awarding natural and legal persons for outstanding merit in the life of the town of Vatra.

In 2025, the local public administration began amending and supplementing this decision and the related regulation in order to update the framework for recognising and honouring people who contribute to the town’s development. The draft was put to public consultation, giving residents, organisations and other stakeholders the opportunity to submit proposals and recommendations.

What does the title of “Honorary Citizen” mean?

The title aims to highlight and honour people whose work and achievements have made an important contribution to the town of Vatra and its community.
Through this distinction, the town expresses its respect and gratitude to those who, through professionalism, initiative, dedication or civic engagement, have contributed to the development and promotion of the town.

The title can also be a way of preserving in the community’s memory the people and deeds that have had a special impact on the town.

Gratitude to those who contribute to the town’s development

The development of a community is the result of the efforts of people who choose to get involved. By conferring the title of “Honorary Citizen of the Town of Vatra”, the Town Council pays tribute to people whose achievements and work deserve to be known and appreciated by present and future generations.
