RESCUE STATION

The water rescue service in Vatra plays an important role in keeping residents and visitors safe while they spend time at the Ghidighici Reservoir, one of the main recreation areas near the town.

Two rescue stations operate in the area belonging to Vatra: Water Rescue Station No. 3, on the right bank of Lake Ghidighici, and Water Rescue Station No. 4, on the left bank. Both are part of the water rescue system run by the municipal enterprise “Asociația de Gospodărire a Spațiilor Verzi” (Green Spaces Management Association) of Chișinău municipality.

The main mission of the lifeguards is to prevent accidents and drownings, supervise the water areas and respond quickly when a person’s life is in danger. The staff regularly take part in training and drills for rescue operations and first aid. In 2025, the municipal enterprise AGSV reported that 35 rescue service employees held lifeguard certificates and were trained in first aid techniques and the basics of diving.

The lifeguards’ work is not limited to the summer season. In the cold season, they work to prevent incidents caused by unsafe ice, warn anglers and stand ready to respond to emergencies. In February 2025, the rescue stations at Lake Ghidighici were included in an inspection of their preparedness for ice-break rescues.
